Writing

I write in chunks. I sometimes do not finish what I start. In my blog folder on my computer, there are about four different word documents that consist of about one sentence each. I'm one of those people who think that every thought would make a great book. So I sit down and start something never really coming back to it. I write being partially honest to myself. I do not have the guts to be brutally honest with myself when I write. This is why I admire honest writers who write just how they feel. I am not even talking about public blog entries such as this one. Just simple things on paper. I am sometimes afraid of being honest. This does not make for good writing. Even if someone else likes my stuff- if it's not honest to myself, it gnaws away at my conscience. As I said in my earlier post about West Coast bloggers, we are growing into a significant group of people that write our thoughts our and express our feelings to the world. I find this to be a great achievement. I believe a sign of intellectual progress occurs when one feels free to write and think and is appreciated for that feeling.

When I started this blog, I started it after starting many similar ones in many different places. Asian Avenue had me under the psuedonym "ImAznToo" (I got a few chuckles out of that). I have been Day Cruise on Blogeasy, Xanga, and currently on Blogger. I plan to stick to Blogger for a while. What drives me to write? I'm not quite sure actually. I wanted to be another Instapundit, another Captain's Quarters, or another Hugh Hewitt. But I soon realized that I wasn't really of their caliber. George Orwell said that one of the reasons we write is simply for the glory of our ego. We feel every word that we write is comparable to the best of Faust or Hemingway. I see my writing and I say I am closer to R.L Stine. That is not a good thing. I have vowed not to turn this blog into work. I don't want to make this something I have to do. Rather, I want to write when I feel like writing. I looked through my posts and I realized that every time I had a great post, it was when something triggered me to write in such a way. It was something emotional. Something that I had to let out. There have been times when someone has leaned over to me in class and said "Cruz, write something on ________" I usually nod, take out a piece of paper and just write.

Sometimes, I write to get out of my physical surroundings; during the worst of days, writing about someone achieves something important is very inspirational to me. I'm sure many find it humorous that I would be inspired by my own work. This would not be true if I did not write it for the specific purpose of inspiring myself. I wish to be inspired when I write. Some day, I hope to write something that inspires someone else. And hopefully when I do that, I will be honest with myself also.

Turning from the above, in a bit more important piece of information, I am planning on turning off my comments option. What do you think?

nah! leave the comments on ... one-way communication is for retarded people!!
